How to Advertise to ChatGPT Users: A Beginner's Guide to Sponsored Lines
People spend more and more of their working day inside AI chat tools. Developers debug code there. Students study there. Marketers draft campaigns there. Small business owners write emails there.
If your product helps those people, it makes sense to show up where they are. This guide explains one simple way to do that: a single sponsored line that appears while the AI is writing its answer.
The moment we’re talking about
Every time someone sends a prompt to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, there’s a short wait while the model works. The person is looking at the screen, waiting for the answer to appear.
That’s a rare kind of attention. They’re not scrolling past you in a feed, and you’re not interrupting what they’re reading. They’re simply waiting, and your line is the one thing on the screen besides their own question.
With Waitnai, people who use the Waitnai browser extension see one short text line in that moment:
Your brand · Your one-line message goes here
When the answer arrives, the line goes away. No pop-ups, no video, no tracking across the web.
Who you can reach
The audience is simply people who use AI chat tools a lot. In practice that tends to include:
- software developers and technical teams
- students and researchers
- writers, marketers and content creators
- founders and freelancers who use AI for daily work
Good fits are products those people already look for: developer tools, learning apps, productivity software, design tools, privacy tools, courses and newsletters.
How pricing works (CPM)
You pay per 1,000 views. This is called CPM, cost per mille. You choose your bid, and you prepay for the number of views you want.
| Your bid (CPM) | Views you buy | What you pay |
|---|---|---|
| $2.00 | 10,000 | $20 |
| $3.00 | 50,000 | $150 |
| $5.00 | 100,000 | $500 |
A few things that matter:
- A view only counts when the line was really seen, meaning at least half of it was on screen for at least a second. You don’t pay for lines that loaded in a hidden tab.
- Higher bids show more often when several advertisers compete. You can check current bids on the live auction page.
- Unserved views are refunded. If you stop a campaign early, the money for views you didn’t get goes back to your wallet.
- You can set a daily limit so your budget lasts instead of being spent in a single day.
- Half of what you pay goes to the person who saw your line. That’s what makes people happy to keep the extension installed, and why they see your line in a good mood rather than an annoyed one.
How to write a line people read
You get one line, so every word counts. What works:
- Lead with the benefit, not your name. “Ship code reviews in half the time” beats “Introducing AcmeReview”.
- Match the moment. People are waiting for an answer. “Learn a language while you wait” works because it fits.
- Be specific. Numbers and concrete outcomes (“Free for 14 days”, “Set up in 2 minutes”) get more clicks than vague claims.
- Keep it short. Our limit is 64 characters, and shorter is usually better.
- Skip the hype. No ALL CAPS, no “!!!”, no “#1 best”. It reads like spam and doesn’t pass review anyway.
- Use a clean square icon. A recognizable logo helps people trust the line at a glance.
A few examples of the style that works:
- “Builds that finish before your coffee does”
- “Encrypt your traffic, wherever you connect”
- “Daily news summaries without the outrage”
What’s not allowed
Every line is reviewed by a person before it goes live, usually within 24 hours. We don’t accept:
- misleading claims, including “get rich quick” offers and links that go somewhere different from what the line says
- adult content, gambling or weapons
- malware or anything illegal
- anything impersonating another brand
This keeps the space trustworthy, which is good for everyone advertising there.
How to measure results
Your dashboard shows views, clicks, click-through rate and spend per campaign. A simple way to start:
- Launch a small test (for example 10,000 views).
- Try two or three different lines.
- Keep the one with the best click-through rate and scale it up.
- Add a daily limit so you can watch results over a week.
Use a tracking link (with UTM tags) on your landing page so you can see what those visitors do after they click.
Getting started
- Go to Advertise and create an advertiser account. Email or Google sign-in both work.
- Add money to your wallet.
- Write your line, upload an icon, choose your bid and how many views you want.
- Submit for review. Once approved, it starts showing right away.
